From One DevilDog to Another (Semper Fur?)

We are feeding our Marines -- my official adoptee as well as the aforementioned K9 unit (both are in Iraq). That's why Truman's in uniform here, looking as tough as he possibly can.

My own personal "devil dog" watched (and sniffed) with great interest as I packed up four boxes of jerky, trail mix, dried fruit, candy, protein bars, toiletries, dog toys, sand scarves, cooling neck wraps, phone cards, letters, and probably dog hair. He accompanied me to the post office to pick up some customs forms, but will be napping in his crate at home while I actually drag the boxes back and stand in line for the big send-off. I only have so many hands, you know.

Many thanks to those of you who sent e-mail greetings and photos of your puppies! I'm sure the K9 team will be thrilled. I'll let you know if I hear back from them.

It's my pleasure. Many thanks to your family, Julia -- the families serve, too. :)

Wow, if I had known about this sooner, I could have sent something. Are you doing this again sometime? I would love to help. Let us know, if you are.

Sarah & Cobra -- I'll let you know! If I hear back from this unit, I'll probably send another package (and I'll try to announce it a bit more in advance next time). Thanks for your support!

What a great thing you are doing. Sorry we missed the deadline. My internet is freaking out at home.

Hello...

Wow... am amazed with what you do...

Guide dogs aren't that popular in my country just yet. Mainly cause we're a Muslim country and dogs aren't allowed in most places.

Makes it quite hard for my mommy who wants to take me everywhere.

Keep up the good work, and we'll be adding you to our blogroll.. Stop by ours too if you have time...

Hi Jenny,
I am an adult puppy raiser for The Seeing Eye in NJ, currently raising my lucky 13th pup. She was placed with us on Wednesday. She is a 8 week old black female Labrador Retriever, her name is Willow. My better half started a blog about our adventures with her. While searching for other puppy raiser sites, I happened upon yours. I love it! It sounds like you and Truman are very busy. Oh, I should mention my son is a US Marine. He did a tour of duty in Fallujah Iraq. So you can see; you are a girl after my heart. Keep up the good work. Trish and Willow

Oops, we missed the deadline- Momma is always late!
Okay actually she just found your blog now but she thinks you are awesome for raising future guide dogs! We know someone in our city who has a guide dog to help him as he is blind. And the dog, Yeller is a yellow lab that looks like Truman only all grown up.

And hey we didn't know that there was a K9 unit in Iraq. Wow! WTG for sending all those nice treats and toys to them!

I just came across you by accident. I am also a member of soldiers' angels. It is a wonderful organization. I love what you are doing. Keep up the good work. One of the soldiers I'm in contact with has a blog if you are interested. The language is a bit coarse, but I have found it interesting. I didn't realize how much I had underestimated what life is like for our troops in Iraq until I started reading there. I want to say again that I think what you're doing is great and I will be back.

Hey everybody! Many thanks for your kind comments. I'm sorry I've been so behind in posting and in acknowledging new visitors, etc. -- life with Truman (and everyone & everything else!) has been quite busy.

THANK YOU to those of you who have linked to this blog and who continue to be part of my corner of this virtual puppy raising (or just puppy loving) community. And WELCOME to those who are new.

And a special shout-out to my fellow Soldiers' Angels who happened upon us here by chance! (Yes, "another angel," I'd love to read your soldier's blog if you e-mail me the address!)

This was a great way for me to combine two of my biggest passions for service, and I'll most likely do it again in a month or two, so stay tuned.

And Trish: please pass along my thanks to your son, and tell him I'm proud of him for serving. Proud of you, too -- any mom who raises a Marine and then sees him through a deployment automatically gets my respect. The fact that you're a puppy raiser as well makes you even cooler. :) Yours is the third black-Lab-Willow we've met, by the way....

Thanks again, everybody! Come back anytime.

The language is a bit coarse, but I think it is worth reading.
Being a part of soldiers' angels has been a rewarding experience for me.
Thanks, keep posting

Another Angel...thanks for the link. You know what's crazy? I call Truman "Rooman" (from back in his early puppyhood when he would howl, "roo-roo-RRROOOOOO")...which I often shorten even further, to "Roo-dawg," and sometimes just "Roo." Who knew he'd have something in common with your soldier? Hee hee....
